このままFMラジオ番組のオープニングに使えそうな曲。

私は Steely Dan というミュージシャンが大好きなのだけれど、あるCDカタログの Steely Dan フォロアー特集で紹介されていたのが Samuel Purdey。

ギャヴィン・ドッズ（Gavin Dodds, vo, g）とバーニー・ハーレー（Barney Hurley, dr）のふたり組。シングル "Lucky Radio" (1999) をリリース後、日本限定で 『Musically Adrift （夏のハイウェイ）』（1999）というアルバムを一枚だけ発表している。

Steely Dan というよりはアシッド・ジャズという感じ。ふたりは初期のJamiroquai と交流があり、ドッズは Jamiroquai のファースト・アルバム Emergency on Planet Earth (1993) にも参加している。

ベタはベタだけれど、なかなかのラインナップ。オレも、ジョニ・ミッチェル以外は全部持っている。Airplay (1980) とか、何百回も聴いているけれど、死ぬまで飽きない自信がある。

『Musically Adrift （夏のハイウェイ）』を通して聴くと Steely Dan というにはポップス寄り。ヴォーカルが爽やかなぶん今ひとつ苦みやクセの強さは足りない気もするけれど、聴きやすくて悪くはない。M8 "Santa Rosa" は Steely Dan と Doobie Brothers を足したような感じ。

上のハーレーの愛聴盤にピンときた人、70〜80年代のAORずきな人は間違いなく買い。
